Intellectual Properties, the Future

Value can be based on feelings, such as subjective perception of e.g. beautiful or good, or to comparison and objective valuation of the features and of the impact the asset can bring about. The more we are able to utilize information, the more accurate will the evaluation be. One very important aspect is the availability and type of markets. If there are no markets available, the value is often based on knowledge or feelings of the owner. As the market builds, issues that give structure to the asset, such as documentation or other concretization, enable better possibilities to valuate. The small amount of transparency and knowledge often transfers the focus from benefits and actual requirements set to an asset to issues that are not relevant to the purpose. In a perfect market, the competition is free and the parties involved have a possibility make an objective estimation of the value of an asset: there should be less differences in the evaluations concerning the worth of assets. The internet, the availability of information, the equalization of norms and cultures across the globe, as well as automation have changed and will change the pace of trading and possibilities to valuate different types of assets. Also, the ways the assets accumulate and get structure will change, as will the forms of an asset to be traded. How should one then confine the ownership and forms of structure in valuation of assets? If a competitor described your intellectual assets, would you be able to draw rewards from the created documentation? In the future, it is possible that the information concerning intellectual assets is increasingly collected by different types of actors in the market and that the owner of an asset is aware of only tiny part of the information that concerns his or her asset. I think the development including, inter alia, documentation possibilities and the automation, will further increase the importance of intellectual property law and especially related practices. It is easier to build security and ownership of assets that are local, but what will be the share of worth of assets that could be described as local in the future? The value over and above the risk increasingly comes from international market anyway. The strength of intellectual property law can be deliberated along with economic theories, including aspects related to the source of motivation derived from the gains the creator is able to draw from his or her creations and to arrangements that allow the creation of best possible value added for the whole society. Intellectual properties are and will be one of the determining factors of the future development. Since the worth of our assets is based on no less than awareness or knowledge, I do not think the significance of any decision made on IPR can be exaggerated.
